STATISTICAL WATCH : Franklin Breaks Own Record 3 Weeks Later

Taft’s Kevin Franklin scored a school-record 40 points in a 69-54 win over Eagle Rock on Monday. He broke his own record of 38 he set three weeks ago. . . . Oak Park senior guard Brian Friefeld scored 29 points against Downey and 34 points against Cathedral in the Eagles’ two losses at the Bell-Jeff tournament to raise his scoring average to 27.6 points per game. . . . Calabasas has three players averaging in double figures: Steve Ward (27.3), John Drezner (12.8) and Corey Marschalk (11.0). . . . During a recent four-game win streak, Saugus forward Rusty Morse led the Centurions in scoring every game. He is averaging 18 points.

Shooting: After 11 games, Simi Valley has made 58% of its field goals attempts and could become the first team in school history to shoot better than 50% for a season. Junior 6-10 center Don MacLean is 105 for 157 (66.9%), and four of the team’s five starters are shooting better than 50%. . . . In its 70-55 win over Canoga Park on Saturday, Birmingham made 82% of its free throws. . . . Crespi (1-8) has no player shooting better than 50%. . . . Westlake made 29 of 33 attempts in a 77-72 win over San Fernando. Senior Paul Keenan, who shot 90% from the line last season, made 14 of 15.

Wins and Losses: Valley League teams had a combined record of 14-5 in tournament games his week. . . . Crespi’s 79-36 loss to Inglewood last week in the Glendale tournament is the worst in Coach Paul Muff’s 11-year career at Crespi.
