SAN FRANCISCO MAN TO BE AN OPERA PACIFIC DIRECTOR
Martin Weil, former executive director of the San Francisco-based Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, has been appointed managing director of Opera Pacific, general director David DiChiera announced Wednesday.
Weil’s duties will include coordinating and supervising efforts in marketing, ticket services, development and financial planning and coordination of volunteer activities.
A native of West Los Angeles and a graduate of UCLA, Weil has been active in the performing arts for the past 16 years, most recently with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, an organization modeled upon European chamber groups that perform on authentic period instruments.
For the past three years, he also has been active in the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Business Volunteers for the Arts organization.
Weil assumes his duties immediately with Opera Pacific. The Irvine-based company will mount three productions at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, beginning with Gershwin’s “Porky and Bess,” Feb. 11-15.
Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story” will be given Feb. 20 to March 8. Puccini’s “La Boheme,” staged by composer Gian Carlo Menotti, will be presented March 28, April 1 and 4.
