Loyola Marymount University completes its pre-conference basketball schedule at home Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against U.S International University. t The Loyola women will play in the opening half of the double-header at 4:30, facing the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

The Lions ended a three-game losing streak with a 103-98 victory over Loyola of Maryland on Monday, improving their record to 6-4 and their home mark to 5-0. The high-scoring Lions are averaging almost 94 points per game but are allowing 92.

Junior forward Mike Yoest is averaging 23.8 points and 8.4 rebounds and is shooting 55% from the field. He leads the team in free-throw shooting (81%) and steals (17). Senior center Vic Lazzaretti, back in the starting lineup, had a career-high 28 points against Loyola and is shooting 56%. Junior forward Mark Armstrong leads in rebounding (10.6 per game), is shooting (58%) and is scoring 13.6 points per game. Senior guard Chris Nikchevich is averaging 13.2 points and 9.2 assists and is shooting 51% from three-point range, having hit 21 of 41.

The Loyola women, 3-6, are led by Sylvia Bauer’s 14-point average, followed by Chris Connolly at 11.7. Amy Atkinson is pulling down 10 rebounds per game. The Lions will be without freshman Stephanie Fleischaker for the rest of the season because of knee surgery.

Cal State Dominguez Hills’ men’s basketball team, coming off an 8-1 home stand, takes to the road for games Friday at Azusa Pacific and Saturday at Grand Canyon College in Phoenix. Both begin at 7:30 p.m. The Toros (9-2) begin California Collegiate Athletic Assn. play the following weekend. The Toros defeated Grand Canyon this season, 74-60, shooting a school record 82% in the second half.

New Dominguez Hills career scoring leader William Alexander continues to lead the team with a 19.6 scoring average, followed by sophomores Vico Nomaaea (12.9) and Tony Akins (12.3).

The Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s basketball team plays Idaho State and Sonoma State on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, both at home. Saturday’s game begins at 7:30 p.m. Sunday’s game against the only Division I opponent of the Lady Toros begins at 3. Dominguez is 4-7 after Monday’s 68-61 home victory over Chico State, avenging an earlier loss at Chico. Deborah Shepherd and Kim Williamson lead the Lady Toros. Idaho State features point guard Stacy Broussard out of St. Mary’s Academy in Inglewood.
