Fountain Valley : Driver Critically Hurt in Collision at Intersection
A driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol was critically injured when he struck a car in a Fountain Valley intersection, police said Wednesday.
Barry Jon LePage, 22, of Garden Grove was on life-support machines at the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center on Wednesday.
The crash occurred at 5:13 p.m. Tuesday at Verbena Court and Harbor Boulevard, Sgt. Dale Herzog said.
He said Anh Nhat Tran, 21, of Santa Ana pulled into the intersection preparing to turn left onto northbound Harbor Boulevard. LePage, traveling south on Harbor, struck the rear of Tran’s car, Herzog said, then careened into a tree.
Mario B. Munoz, 23, of Santa Ana, a passenger in LePage’s car, suffered cuts to his face and knees. Tran was cut on his head and shoulder. Both men were treated at the Fountain Valley hospital and released, Herzog said.
Herzog said that the accident is under investigation but that the “primary cause is now believed to be . . . LePage operating a vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant. They believe he was drinking,” Herzog added.
