Brave Raj, Leading 2-Year-Old Filly, Is Injured in Santa Anita Workout

Brave Raj, who is expected to be named next week as the champion 2-year-old filly for 1986, came out of a workout lame at Santa Anita Wednesday and will be X-rayed today to determine the injury.

After working five furlongs in 1:00, Brave Raj was limping on her right foreleg. A veterinarian’s inspection showed heat in the foot, and trainer Mel Stute said that there is a possibility that she may have injured her knee.

The exercise Wednesday was Brave Raj’s first workout since she finished fifth trying to beat colts in the Hollywood Futurity on Dec. 14. Brave Raj had broken Outstandingly’s 1984 earnings record for a 2-year-old filly by winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Santa Anita on Nov. 1, and a $22,500 share of the Futurity purse left her with a total of $933,650.
