County supervisors Tuesday accepted nearly $170,000 from the state to fight the spread of AIDS. The money will be used mainly to identify those carrying the AIDS virus and to tell them on how to avoid exposing others. The county also hopes to persuade those who are at high risk of being infected--such as homosexuals and intravenous drug users--to adopt behavior that will reduce the risk. The grant from the state Department of Health Services will enable the county to hire eight new staff members. The positions include an epidemiology coordinator, a microbiologist, a communicable disease investigator, a health educator, a health education associate, and two positions for clerks and secretaries.
