Local News in Brief : Tujunga Man Arrested in Hit-and-Run Death
A 21-year-old Tujunga man was arrested Monday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter after fleeing a fatal traffic accident involving a Burbank woman, police said.
The man, Danny Simpson, was released on $2,500 bail Tuesday from the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center. He had gone to Serra Memorial Health Center in Sun Valley for treatment of head injuries, was arrested there and transferred to County-USC, Officer Steven Castleberry said.
Castleberry said Nancy Barker, 52, lost control of her car on San Fernando Boulevard near Floyd Street at 5:35 p.m. Monday after Simpson struck her car’s right rear fender while trying to change lanes. Barker’s automobile slid 100 feet sideways before jumping the curb, smashing through a wrought iron fence and crashing into a concrete wall, Castleberry said.
Barker was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, hospital officials said. Witnesses gave police a description of the hit-and-run vehicle and a partial license plate number, Castleberry said.
