Boy’s Fall Broken as He Lands on Man
PHILADELPHIA — A 20-month-old boy who crawled onto a third-floor window ledge and fell off was saved from serious injury by landing on a neighbor sitting on the steps below, police said.
Christian Diaz suffered bumps and bruises in the 40-foot fall Thursday but had no major injuries, according to Phyllis Fisher, spokeswoman for Hahnemann University Hospital. The child landed on Benjamin Irizarry, 48, who was not hurt.
Detective Gerald Whartenby said the front window of the rowhouse apartment apparently was left open and that the baby crawled up onto a bed and fell out the window. He said the baby’s mother was in another room at the time.
