Deukmejian’s Education Budget

Bill Honig’s leadership for superior education is very much needed and welcome. For the past 60 years I have watched our public school system being bashed by anti-education and anti-democratic citizens in this country.

Jerry Falwell believes that public schools are unnecessary, that all schools should be Christian schools. Both the Reagan and Deukmejian administrations have reduced funding for public schools. Education Secretary William Bennett is pushing hard for vouchers for private and religious schools rather than concentrating on upgrading public schools.

We desperately need leaders like Honig. He will see to it that we get better textbooks; he will raise teachers’ salaries, and raise our students’ math scores from the bottom of the list to the top of the list. Education is an asset for everyone.
