The Death of Ray Bolger
The death of Ray Bolger marks the loss of our last major tie to the creation of the film, “The Wizard Of Oz.”
There aren’t too many movies blessed with such indelibly vivid, such incredibly perfect casting: Judy Garland as Dorothy, Jack Haley as the Tin Man, Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion, Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow, Frank Morgan as the Wizard, Billy Burke as Glinda, the good witch, and Margaret Hamilton (so wonderfully menacing) as the wicked one. Can anyone even imagine others playing those roles?
The Wizard of Oz lives on, in our memories, in our hearts. And so does Ray Bolger.
