Edberg to Play McEnroe at the Forum

Stefan Edberg--perhaps not so fresh from Sunday’s five-set victory over Pat Cash in the Australian Open final and the subsequent plane trip--will play John McEnroe tonight in the Michelin Tennis Challenge at the Forum.

The Challenge is a year-long, round-robin competition among Edberg, McEnroe, Ivan Lendl and Miloslav Mecir. In the opener, Lendl defeated Mecir in straight sets.

This will also be McEnroe’s first match of 1987. He was forced to withdraw for the Australian Open because of a back injury.

In the preliminary event, Ilie Nastase will play Vitas Gerulaitis at 6 p.m.
