Football fans in Hawaii missed a large portion of the first half because KGMB-TV’s telecast of the game was interrupted twice by power outages, probably caused by high winds on Oahu, the island where Honolulu is located. The first outage caused a loss of satellite reception for a few minutes; the second knocked out power to 12,000 customers, including the station’s satellite reception and the station itself. Power at the station was restored 22 minutes later, but it took an additional 21 minutes to bring back full satellite service.

“It couldn’t have come at a worse time,” Bill Riddle, the station’s sales manager, said.
