Thousands of boisterous fans gathered in frosty Giants Stadium today to greet the New York Giants with kazoos, confetti and snowball fights to celebrate their first national football championship in three decades.

“I hope that sometime in the near future we can all get together and do this again,” said quarterback Phil Simms, showing off the Vince Lombardi Trophy with Coach Bill Parcells to a crowd stadium officials estimated at 45,000.

Gov. Thomas H. Kean, presenting the players with commemorative gold medallions, called the team “the first world champions from the state of New Jersey.”

Huge snowball fights broke out while the crowd waited for their heroes to appear and about 100 National Guardsmen were called in to guard snow piles on the field.
