3M said it will lay off 217 workers in Camarillo.
The company said the dismissals will begin in May and continue over the course of a year at the plant, which employs 875 workers. 3M said the move stems from increased foreign competition in the floppy disk and magnetic tape businesses. The company will stop making floppy disks in Camarillo, transferring that operation to Weatherford, Okla., but will continue to manufacture magnetic tape and tape cartridges at the Ventura County facility.
