‘Platoon,’ Director Stone Win Golden Globe Movie Honors

“Platoon,” an uncompromising study of the horrors of the Vietnam War, won the Golden Globe on Saturday night as best dramatic motion picture of 1986 and Oliver Stone was named best director for the same film at the Hollywood Press Assn.’s 44th annual awards ceremony.

Woody Allen’s “Hannah and Her Sisters” won as the best comedy or musical motion picture.

Marlee Matlin, the troubled deaf woman of “Children of a Lesser God,” and Bob Hoskins, the small-time underworld operator of “Mona Lisa,” won for their performances in dramatic motion pictures.

Paul Hogan, who scored an astounding hit with his movie “ ‘Crocodile’ Dundee,” was named best actor of a musical/comedy in 1986. Sissy Spacek, the erratic sister of “Crimes of the Heart,” won for best performance by an actress in the same category.

“L.A. Law” took top television honors with the Golden Globe for best television drama series.

“Moonlighting” stars Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd won for best acting in the TV musical or comedy series category.

Other Golden Globes went to James Woods for best performance by an actor in a TV movie for his role as a schizophrenic in the CBS film “Promise” and to “Golden Girls” for best TV musical or comedy series.

It was also a big night for veteran stars as the association honored Olivia de Havilland for her supporting performance in a TV movie for “Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna”; Edward Woodward as lead actor in a TV series, “The Equalizer”; Angela Lansbury as lead actress in a dramatic series, “Murder She Wrote,” and Loretta Young for best performance by an actress in the TV movie “Christmas Eve.”

Cheryl Ladd and William Shatner presided over the two-hour telecast from the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s International Ballroom.
