Two ranchers in Bassett, Neb., who used a shotgun to prevent federal agents from seizing their cattle, walked into a sheriff’s office to complain about the nighttime roundup and were jailed. The ranchers, brothers Stanley and Eldon Slangal, were in custody on charges of kidnaping and several other violations after they stopped six Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. employees and the county sheriff from taking 150 cattle as collateral for a debt.
