Beirut Kidnapers Free Businessman
The kidnapers of a Lebanese-American businessman released him unharmed from four days of captivity Tuesday after his family paid a “sizable ransom,” police said.
“I’m fine,” a smiling and clean-shaven Jack Seikaly told reporters at his home in Muslim West Beirut after his release at mid-afternoon.
The 51-year-old Seikaly, an uncle of Syracuse University basketball star Rony Seikaly, owns real estate in Beirut and runs a printing house.
He refused to discuss his ordeal or be photographed.
Seikaly’s son, Joe, confirmed that a ransom was paid to win his father’s freedom. But he declined to say how much it was or to give any other details.
“He’s in excellent health and shape,” the son said.
Seikaly was abducted Friday afternoon near Beirut University College, where three Americans and an Indian were kidnaped Jan. 24, police said.
