Deputies Seek Escapee: Sheriff’s deputies were still searching Thursday for a jail inmate who escaped from a minimum-security work detail at a county maintenance yard in Santa Ana. Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Richard J. Olson said Carlos Humberto Covarrubias took a county worker’s pickup truck out of the county’s Fruit Street maintenance yard. Olson said the vehicle was recovered near the intersection of Highland and Shelton streets in Santa Ana at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, about two hours after the escape. Olson said that Covarrubias had been in custody for a narcotics-related probation violation and is not considered dangerous.
