Sports Digest was compiled by Gordon Monson.

Heavyweight Alex Garcia, victorious in his pro debut several weeks ago, returns to the Country Club ring in Reseda on Tuesday night.

And this time, he won’t be fighting a substitute.

Garcia, the national amateur super heavyweight champion, ended his first professional fight at 2:52 of the first round of a scheduled four-rounder by knocking out Cliff Melbourne.

This time, Garcia will be facing Richard Harrell of Los Angeles, who will bring a 4-2 record into the ring against Garcia, a San Fernando product.

Daniel Garcia is managed by Al Stankie, who also handles the career of North American Boxing Federation flyweight champion and former Olympic gold medalist Paul Gonzalez.

Lightweights Robert Lewis (4-3-2, three knockouts) and Oscar Ornelas (2-2-2, two knockouts), both of Los Angeles, will meet in a six-round lightweight bout.

Also on Tuesday’s card is Dino Garza of North Hollywood (1-0), brother of Jaime, the former World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion. Garza will face Ruben Maldonado of Los Angeles (0-4) in a four-round featherweight bout.

After leading the Double-A Texas League in RBIs last season, Jason Felice figured the New York Mets would invite him to their training camp this spring.

“But they didn’t, and I’m mad,” said Felice, a 1980 graduate of Reseda High. “I guarantee that the guys who led the other Double-A leagues in RBIs are going to big league camps.”

Felice, noting the off-season activities of some of the Mets this winter, said there might be another chance.

“If someone goes to jail, I want to be playing well enough to get the call,” Felice said.

Felice, an outfielder who batted .263 and led Jackson in homers with 17, will be playing for the Mets’ Triple-A Tidewater team in the International League this season.
