Mexican Students Found Safe in Snow
Nine Mexican high school students missing for two days in the mountains east of Ensenada were found safe in a mountain ranch house where they had taken shelter during a snowstorm.
The students left on a camping trip a week ago and were last seen Monday.
Rescue crews were going to began a search Thursday, but were hampered by 5 feet of snow that fell on the mountain. On Friday, Baja California Gov. Xicotencatl Leyva persuaded federal authorities to use a helicopter. The youths were spotted when they ran out of the isolated house, waving their arms.
Baja California authorities said that the helicopter was unable to land on the snowy mountaintop and rescue crews could not reach the youths because snow had clogged the only road into area.
The students communicated to the pilot, however, that they were all right and had enough food for a few days longer.
