The New York state health department is investigating the medical care artist Andy Warhol received and the circumstances surrounding his death, spokesman Peter Slocum said Tuesday. “We will see whether there was any evidence that a proper standard of care was not maintained or the (state) hospital code was in any way violated,” Slocum said. Warhol died Feb. 22 of an apparent heart attack after undergoing a gall bladder operation. No complications had been reported following surgery. Slocum said the apparently unrelated nature of the surgery and the cause of death “pricked the curiosity (of state investigators) enough to want to look into it.”
