A couple slain in a shoot-out with police outside a Paso Robles courthouse when they tried to take their ex-attorney hostage apparently meant to gain revenge on society by triggering riots and killing “lawyers, judges, cops, prostitutes, degenerates, perverts, homosexuals, Wall Street, big businessmen, politicians . . . “ a local newspaper reported. Killed were Barbara Gabrielle Veilleux, 44, of Cayucos, and Michael Rachelli, 24. Attorney Frederick Metzger, 73, was wounded in the stomach. Police Sgt. Greg Gray, 40, received an arm wound. A handwritten checklist compiled by the couple and obtained by the Daily Press of Paso Robles indicated that they wanted money and publicity and sought to trigger riots and plunder several Los Angeles suburbs. The list suggested that they would hold Metzger prisoner until their demands were met. “They were absolute wackos,” said another of their former attorneys, James Murphy.
