The City Council has approved spending $12,000 for a market research study on the feasibility of developing senior citizen housing on a portion of the vacant 33-acre Chevron tank farm site.

A proposal submitted by Robert Charles Lesser and Co. outlined the objectives of the study, which will include a survey of existing senior citizen housing facilities to determine the demand for more.

The study also will look into other sites including areas along South Street, Pioneer Boulevard and Harvey Way, said Charles K. Ebner, director of community development.
