WEEKEND TV : SPRING BRINGS PLEAS FOR FUNDS AND ‘FILM AWARDS’
Spring arrives on television this weekend, bringing another fund-raising drive on PBS, the annual Easter Seal telethon and KHJ-TV’s “Your Choice for the Film Awards.”
Public television’s 16-day money drive gets under way with a musical theme today. Hoyt Axton hosts “Legends of Country Music” at 3 p.m. on KCET Channel 28, while the lineup on KOCE Channel 50 includes “Fabian’s Good Time Rock ‘n’ Roll” at 5:30 p.m., a folk jamboree with Arlo Guthrie at 8:30 p.m. and “Charley Pride at Devil’s Lake” at 10:30 p.m.
The music continues Sunday with “Pavarotti at Madison Square Garden” on Channel 28 at 3 p.m., a salute to Glenn Miller on Channel 50 at 5 p.m. and a tribute to “Lawrence Welk: Television’s Music Man,” hosted by Kathy Lennon, on Channel 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Your financial support also will be sought during the 16th annual telethon to raise money for the Easter Seal program that helps disabled children and adults. It will run from 11 tonight until 5 p.m. Sunday on Channel 5 (and starts at 8 tonight on Channel 8), with Pat Boone, Donna Mills and Mary Frann serving as hosts.
Meanwhile, Channel 9’s 22nd annual “Your Choice for the Film Awards,” in which moviegoers were given the opportunity to choose their favorite films and performers of 1986, will be seen at 8 tonight and again Sunday at 8 p.m. Tim Conway and Jane Seymour are the hosts.
