Lazers Beaten at Chicago, 5-3, as Granitza Stars

Karl-Heinz Granitza scored twice in the first quarter, leading the Chicago Sting past the Lazers, 5-3, Friday night before 4,996 fans at Chicago.

The Lazers (7-25) have lost 15 of their last 16 games. Chicago improved its record to 17-16.

The Lazers took the lead twice in the first quarter on goals by Lee Cornwell and Michael Collins, but each time, Granitza came back with goals to tie the score.

Ben Collins of the Sting and Don Ebert of the Lazers scored in the second quarter, making it 3-3.

After a scoreless third quarter, former Lazer Batata put the Sting ahead for good with a low, hard shot past goalkeeper Hubert Birkenmeier, who signed a 10-day contract with the Lazers Thursday. Frank Klopas put an insurance goal into an open net with just more than a minute left in the game.
