Week in Review : MAJOR EVENTS, IMAGES AND PEOPLE IN ORANGE COUNTY NEWS : COUNTY : Officials Exhume Inmate’s Body
Orange County prosecutors have begun a careful re-examination of a body they had exhumed--the remains of a 71-year-old man who had died while in a County Jail cell with an inmate suspected of strangling another inmate.
The death of John Franklin Wilcox on Jan. 17 in a two-man medical isolation cell originally had been attributed to acute emphysema. Prosecutors discovered, however, that Wilcox’s cell mate had been Jerry T. Pick, 23, who was awaiting trial for attempted robbery.
Pick was under suspicion for strangling another of his cell mates, Arthur G. Oviedo, 25, of Santa Fe Springs, whose body was discovered Jan. 31 in a medical isolation cell.
