San Diego
A 5-year-old San Diego boy was in critical condition Wednesday after being hit by a car at 39th Street and Monroe Avenue in Normal Heights, police said.
Christopher Banning was playing with a friend when both stepped onto the street at 5:33 p.m., police said. A vehicle struck Banning, but his friend made it back to the curb safely.
Paramedics took the boy to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with multiple injuries. He was later transferred to Children’s Hospital, but officials there would not comment on his condition.
Police were investigating the accident.
