Ted Dawson Suspended After Altercation
Sportscaster Ted Dawson was suspended by Channel 7 after an altercation with a news producer late Tuesday night, two sources at the station said Wednesday.
Dawson reportedly got into an argument with producer Ernie Thornton after Tuesday night’s 11 o’clock news.
Dawson apparently was upset that his time for sports was cut to make room for coverage of the collision of two police helicopters over Irvine. One of the sources said: “He decked Thornton.”
Dawson, confirming that he has been suspended, said there had been no punch, merely a shove.
Dawson, who was told not to appear on the news shows Wednesday night and tonight, will begin a scheduled two-week vacation Friday. Rick Lozano will fill in for him.
John Severino, Channel 7’s general manager, said he does not comment on personnel situations.
