British Surrogate Mother Can Keep Twins, Judge Rules
LONDON — A British surrogate mother who wrote a poignant letter to the father of her twins telling of her attachment to them will be allowed to keep the children.
Britain’s leading family judge, Sir John Arnold, ruled Thursday that the 5-month-old infants--Britain’s first surrogate twins--should stay with their mother.
“There is a bond which weighs predominantly in the balance of leaving the children with their mother,” Arnold said.
Initially after giving birth, the mother agreed to give up the twins to their father, a London doctor, and his wife, but she later changed her mind.
“I thought it would be easy, but I saw the babies first,” the woman said. “I love them as no other person can.”
