San Diego
The driver who rammed his car into a crowd of partying teen-agers on Fiesta Island last summer was sentenced Thursday to two years in state prison.
Martin Stockert, 28, of Linda Vista, recently returned from a 90-day diagnostic study at Chino State Prison, where officials made undisclosed recommendations about his sentence.
San Diego Superior Court Judge J. Richard Haden denied probation.
Stockert pleaded guilty Nov. 12 to assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence of alcohol, causing injury.
Six teen-agers, including Kimberly Meyers, 16, who was dragged for 35 feet, were injured in the Aug. 13 melee.
A witness, Daniel Bostic, 18, said the early-morning incident occurred after he punched Stockert for making a lewd remark toward Bostic’s girlfriend. He said Stockert was drunk. Bostic testified that Stockert then warned him he was going to get a machine gun and got into his car and drove into the crowd.
After Stockert’s car stopped, the crowd dragged him from his car and beat him.
