Tennis Player Briggs Decides to Attend UCI
Mike Briggs, the best boys’ high school tennis player in Orange County the past three years, will attend UC Irvine next year.
Briggs, a senior at Corona del Mar High School, won the Southern Section singles championships in 1985 as a sophomore. In 1986 he was 47-1 in singles, losing his only match in the semifinals of the Southern Section championships. He is 12-0 this season.
Briggs was ranked 17th in the nation in the 18-and-under classification and third in Southern California.
Bill Reynolds, UCI assistant coach, said Briggs informed him of his decision Thursday night. Briggs had narrowed his college choices to UCI and USC.
