Lyman Picks Up Third No-Hitter
Joyce Lyman pitched 12 innings for her third no-hitter of the season, leading Rancho Santiago Community College over Citrus, 1-0, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Friday at Rancho Santiago.
Lyman (6-1, 11-3), a freshman from Edison High School, set a college record for no-hitters in a season. She struck out six and had allowed no walks.
Sandy Ortiz’s grounder with the bases loaded drove in Trina Franklin with the game’s only run.
Stacy Schumaker gave up six hits and struck out five for Citrus (3-7). Rancho Santiago (9-1, 15-6), which is in first place in the Orange Empire Conference, plays at Cypress Wednesday at 3 p.m.
