Steve Alford, 6-2, 183, Senior--A two-time All-American and the Hoosiers all-time leading scorer with 2,382 points . . . Connected on 52.1% of 3-point shots, among the top ten in the nation . . . Also among the nation’s leaders in scoring (21.7) and free throw shooting (89.2) . . . Overlooked as a passer, he led the club in assists with 3.6 per game and is fifth on IU’s all-time list with 373.

Daryl Thomas, 6-7, 236, Senior--Has 1,070 career points, making him 23rd Hoosier to break the 1,000-point mark . . . Averaging 15.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for season, second on the club in both categories . . . Sixth in Big 10 in field goal percentage at 54.2.

Ricky Calloway, 6-6, 190, Sophomore--Scored the winning basket in the Midwest Regional championship against LSU . . . Missed most of the first six games of the year with a sprained knee but has come back strong of late, averaging 17.4 points and 7.2 rebounds in last five games since being benched against Ohio State . . . A balanced offensive performer averaging 13 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Dean Garrett, 6-10, 222, Junior--Along with Keith Smart, one of two junior college transfers on the Hoosiers . . . Third in the Big 10 with 8.3 rebounds per game, he also scored 11.2 points per game . . . 51 blocks in conference play is second best all-time behind Randy Breuer’s 54 in 1983.

Keith Smart, 6-1, 175, Junior--Transfer from Garden City J.C. in Kansas . . . Good ball-handling skills, great quickness and defensive ability complement Alford’s offensive talents . . . Set a school record of 15 assists in second-round victory over Auburn to break mark held by Quinn Buckner, Isiah Thomas and Stew Robinson . . . Scored 10.8 points per game and 3.2 assists.

BENCH--Used relatively sparingly as evidenced by cumulative seven minutes and three points in the Midwest Regional victory over LSU . . . Defensive specialist Steve Eyl, a 6-6 forward, has contributed 4.2 rebounds and 2 assists per game in the NCAA’s despite playing an average of only 12 minutes per game . . . Joe Hillman, a 6-2 guard, averages 1.9 assists per game and scored a key three-point play in the comeback victory over LSU in the regional championship . . . Kreigh Smith, a 6-7 swingman, possesses a tremendous shooting eye, connecting on seven of eight 3-point shots.

UNLV Armon Gilliam, 6-9, 230, Senior--Averaging 25.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in the tournament after compiling regular-season numbers of 22.6 and 9.1 . . . Scored a career-high 38 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the West Regional semifinal victory over Wyoming . . . Was Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. Player of the Year and West Regional Most Valuable Player . . . A dominant inside player with a soft shooting touch, he has made 60.3% of his shots and 56 steals.

Freddie Banks, 6-2 1/2, 155, Senior--Third on school’s all-time career scoring list behind Eddie Owens and Sidney Green, he needs 31 points to reach 2,000 . . . Made 41.9% of his 3-point attempts but is currently mired in a 22-65 shooting slump (33.8) . . . Made 3.7 3-point shots per game, fifth in the nation . . . Has 63 steals, second best on club.

Gerald Paddio, 6-8, 195, Junior--Transfer from Seminole J.C. in Oklahoma . . . Along with Banks, provides the Runnin’ Rebels with a formidable 1-2 shooting punch from 3-point range, connecting on better than two a game . . . Beat Temple with a 3-point shot at the buzzer in the semifinals of the Preseason NIT.

Mark Wade, 6-0, 160, Senior--Finished second in the nation with 10.5 assists per game while breaking the NCAA single-season assist mark with 388 . . . A reluctant shooter, he averaged only 4.8 points per game despite averaging more than 30 minutes per game . . . Led the team in steals with 79.

Jarvis Basnight, 6-8, 190, Junior--Scores nine points per game while averaging only 17 minutes . . . Shot a team-leading 65% and was second in rebounding and blocked shots with 4.9 per game and 25, respectively.

BENCH--The Runnin’ Rebels have a deep and balanced bench led by 6-4 senior guard Gary Graham, who averages 10.3 points per game. Graham, an alumnus of Baltimore’s Dunbar High that has also produced Georgetown’s Reggie Williams and Wake Forest’s Tyrone Bogues, makes good on 86.1 of his FT tries . . . In the front court, UNLV is led by David Willard, a 6-11 center-forward averaging 4.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in less than 10 minutes per game. Willard shoots 85.0 from the FT line and 53.8 from the floor . . . Eldridge Hudson, a 6-6 forward, is averaging 4.1 points and 4.4 rebounds . . . Richard Robinson, a 6-10 center, has norms of 2.0 points and 2.8 rebounds.

PROVIDENCE Billy Donovan, 6-1, 171, Senior--26.5 points per-game average leads all tournament scorers and 8.8 assist norm is fourth . . . Has hit on 13-of-19 3-point attempts (68.4) . . . Had 35 points and 12 assists as Friars beat UAB 90-68 in first round . . . Became Friars’ all-time assist leader against Alabama, passing Ernie DiGregorio with 539 for career . . . 1,320 career points place him 11th in Providence history . . . The Friars’ floor-leader is an 84.3% free throw shooter.

Delray Brooks, 6-4, 199, Junior--A transfer from Indiana, he became eligible Dec. 20 and moved into starting backcourt permanently . . . Averaging 14.6 ppg while shooting 42.8% from 3-point range . . . Was scoreless in Friars 88-73 Southeast Reional championship victory over Georgetown . . . Had seven steals in 90-87 OT win over Austin Peay to equal school single-game mark.

Ernie Lewis, 6-4, 192, Senior--Led Friars in 3-point goals during regular season with 80 and has hit on 11-of-29 in the tournament . . . Averaged 15 points per game but fouled out of both games against Syracuse this year . . . Has fouled out 10 times overall, including twice in tourney . . . 11.9 scoring average is third best on the club.

David Kipfer, 6-7, 212, Senior--Friar’s leading rebounder at 5.3 per game and fourth-leading scorer at 11.8 . . . Only starter to connect on at least half his shots with 141-279 for 50.5% . . . Had season highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds in 15 minutes before fouling out of first meeting with Orangemen this year . . . Hails from Kitchener, Ontario.

Jacek Duda, 6-11, 233, Senior--Although a starter, averages just 3.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in 14 minutes . . . Equalled career-high of 13 points Dec. 11 against Siena and matched career-best nine rebound effort against Villanova Jan. 10 . . . Defected from Poland after playing for 1982 Polish National Team.

BENCH--All underclass bench is used extensively by Coach Pitino . . . Bench leader is junior center Steve Wright, a 6-9 shot-blocking specialist and 54.5 FG shooter. Steve contributed seven rejections and 12 points to Friars’ 88-73 Southeast Regional victory over Georgetown and was second-leading rebounder for Friars with 4.8 norm . . . Darryl Wright, a 6-5 sophomore forward, leads club in 3-point percentage at 46.2 . . . Marty Conlon, a 6-10 freshman forward, hits 83.1% from free throw line . . . Frosh guard Carlton Screen, a 6-footer, averages 4.7 points and 2.5 assists . . . Freshman forward Abdul Shamsid-Deen, 6-10, is shooting team-best 56.4 from field and has 23 blocks.

SYRACUSE Sherman Douglas, 6-0, 170, Sophomore--Took over the point guard duties from Dwayne Washington and handed out an average of 7.7 assists while leading the Orangemen in scoring with 17.4 points per game . . . Averaged 34.3 minutes . . . Shot 53.3 from the field and 75.4 from the line . . . Quarterbacked Syracuse to the Final Four by passing out an average of 9 assists per game in the tournament.

Greg Monroe, 6-3, 195, Senior--A three-year reserve, replaced Rafael Addison as the shooting guard this season . . . The deep threat for the Orangemen with a 44.8% average from 3-point range . . . Averaged 12.8 points and 4.1 assists per game . . . Has averaged 15 points per game in the tournament and has hit 8 of 18 3-point shots.

Rony Seikaly, 6-10, 240, Junior--Was voted the Most Valuable Player in the East Regionals after scoring a career-high 33 points against Florida and 26 against North Carolina . . . The Greek native has become one of the premier centers in the college ranks, averaging 15 points and 8.2 rebounds, second on the club in both categories . . . Has stepped up his scoring production in the tournament with 26 points per game . . . Leads the team with 73 blocked shots.

Howard Triche, 6-5, 215, Senior--Improved on his junior numbers with an average of 11.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game . . . Has a good shot from 15 feet and has scored an average of 16 points in the last three tournament games . . . Not afraid to hit the boards, all but two of his 19 rebounds in the tournament have been on the defensive boards.

Derrick Coleman, 6-9, 215, Freshman--One of the top freshman in the nation, led the team in rebounding with 8.4 per game and chipped in 12.0 points per game . . . Shot 56.1% from the field . . . Has snared 10.5 rebounds per game in the tournament, sharing the tourney lead with Armon Gilliam of UNLV . . . Pulled in 14 rebounds against North Carolina in the East Regional championship.

BENCH--Only two players see quality time . . . Derek Brower, a 6-9 junior, has averaged 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game backing up Seikaly and Coleman . . . Stephen Thompson, a 6-4 freshman guard, has contributed 5.1 points per game as the third guard.
