Reagan Sees ‘a Clear Account’ of Iran-Contra Affair
President Reagan, dropping earlier complaints about unanswered questions in the Iran- contra affair, said Monday there now is “a clear account of what took place” and that the government can get on with its business.
Reagan spoke at Constitution Hall to a cheering audience of hundreds of people he has appointed to top-level government jobs. He was flanked by members of his Cabinet at a program, which included the singing of patriotic songs.
Using football imagery, Reagan, with two years remaining in his term, said: “We’re not about to fall on the ball and wait for the clock to run out. Instead, we’re going to have the greatest fourth quarter in presidential history.”
The President referred to the Iran arms sale episode as “one of the more frustrating times of this or any Administration.”
