The Smithsonian Institution has acquired Folkways Records, which has issued more than 2,200 albums of folk and tribal music, documentary readings and other historically significant material, the museum announced Wednesday. The acquisition cost $800,000 and took three years of negotiation with the estate of Moses Asch, who founded the label in 1947.
