ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASEBALL : Roundup : Servite Takes the Lead in Angelus With Win
Brian Criss had an RBI double in the first inning and hit a three-run home run in the second to lead Servite High School to 12-6 victory over Bishop Amat Wednesday at Servite. The victory moves the Friars (5-0, 10-1) into sole possession of first place in the Angelus League.
Servite scored six runs in the fifth inning with the help of a two-run single by Michael Robertson and RBI singles by Chris Ulmer and Michael Petko.
Right-hander James Ferguson (5-0) pitched six innings and gave up two hits and one run. Bishop Amat scored five runs in the seventh.
Servite is the top-ranked team in Orange County and is ranked fourth in the Southern Section 4-A. Bishop Amat (4-1, 10-2) is ranked sixth in the Southern Section 4-A.
In the Freeway League:
Troy 13, Buena Park 1--Mike Pawlawski had two hits and three RBIs and Dave Shirota was 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Warriors (5-1, 9-2) at home. Chris Robinson (5-1) got the victory. Steve Reid hit a home run in the third inning for Buena Park.
Sonora 6, La Habra 0--David Morris (1-1) threw a three-hitter and had five strikeouts to lead the Raiders (4-2, 6-6) at La Habra.
Fullerton 10, Sunny Hills 7--John Mele was 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs, Steve DePhillips was 2 for 3 with a two-run home run and Steve Pearson was 1 for 1 with three walks and a two-run homer to lead the Indians (4-2, 7-4) at home.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 9, Garden Grove 0--Jeff Wood was 2 for 4 and scored two runs and Jerry Arneson went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Aztecs (6-0, 11-1) at Garden Grove (1-5, 4-8).
Bolsa Grande 7, Santiago 5--The Matadors (4-2, 7-3) scored three runs in the seventh inning as Chris Tapia hit a two-run double, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Eric Schreifels.
Tony Alfredo hit a home run in the first for Santiago (2-4, 4-5).
Rancho Alamitos 10, Los Amigos 0--Steve Jenkins was 3 for 4 with a triple and a double to lead the Vaqueros (3-2-1, 6-6-1) at Los Amigos. Los Amigos (1-4-1, 1-10-1) made eight errors.
In the Orange League:
Savanna 5, Brea-Olinda 2--Jim Young went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and drove in the game-winning run with a double in the fifth for the Rebels at Savanna (3-2-1, 6-4-1). Rick Rizzo was 3 for 4 with a run for Brea-Olinda (4-2, 5-7).
Valencia 8, Magnolia 6--Dennis Burbank improved his record to 5-0 as he survived five errors and five unearned runs at Valencia. Magnolia led by 5-2 after four, but Valencia (5-1, 8-4) scored four runs in the fifth to take the lead. Robert Navarrette was 2 for 3 with a two-run triple in the fifth.
In the Century League:
Foothill 8, El Modena 2--Corey Parker had a two-run double and Bob Buckner had a sacrifice fly as the Knights scored four runs in the first inning at Foothill.
Tom Adams (2-1) gave up three hits and had five strikeouts as he pitched a complete game for Foothill (2-4, 5-7).
