An Anaheim man was charged with second-degree murder in a collision that took the life of a bicyclist. The Orange County district attorney’s office said Patrick Eugene Connolly, 24, was going 80 m.p.h. when he collided with Secilio Ortega Roman, 19, who had just left work and was riding his bicycle home. Police said Connolly was on probation from previous traffic offenses and a suspension of his driver’s license had expired only four days earlier. In addition, they said he had been cited for speeding just half an hour before, and was speeding away from police in an attempt to avoid another citation at the time the accident occurred. Connolly is being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
