Golden West Invitational : Fullerton Caught in a Fogg, but Has Just Enough to Edge Golden West, 1-0

Golden West’s Cathy Fogg has not allowed an earned run in 41 innings and counting, but that didn’t prevent Fullerton College from defeating Golden West anyway Saturday, 1-0.

Fullerton’s Casey Donaghu scored on an error by Rustler second baseman Tina Barranco in the third, giving the Hornets the only run they would need to advance to today’s championship round of the Golden West Invitational softball tournament.

However, Golden West can get another chance at Fullerton in today’s championship game if it can defeat Arizona Western in a preliminary game at 10 a.m. If Golden West wins that game, it will play Fullerton at noon. Should the Rustlers beat the Hornets in the noon game, they would meet again at 2 in the final of this double-elimination tournament.

Besides the unearned run, the game had little offense. Both pitchers controlled the rest of the game. Annette Gonzales, the winner, surrendered only three hits, and Fogg gave up five.

Earlier Saturday, Fogg, a graduate of Huntington Beach High School, had pitched a no-hitter against Central Arizona as Golden West won, 3-0, advancing to the semifinal.
