The San Dieguito Planning Group has voted against moving a paramedic station into a park along Lomas Santa Fe Drive.
The 8-3 vote with two abstentions last week, came after strong objections to the move by area residents.
Homeowners in nearby Sun Valley, Rancho Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe oppose the site chosen along Lomas Santa Fe Drive, saying it would lead to safety hazards for those who use the park, and would disrupt the neighborhood with noise and nighttime light pollution.
Vice Chairman Albert Frowiss said that the estimated $50,000 move from the Del Mar Fire Station is a land-use issue and requires public hearings.
So far there have been none, Frowiss said. He recommended that the paramedic unit’s advisory board hold further consultations with the county Parks and Recreation Department about alternative sites.
