Motorist Killed as Speeding Car Flips
A motorist was killed early Monday when his car went out of control on a wet stretch of Alicia Parkway in Mission Viejo and flipped over, crushing him inside, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
At about 1:40 a.m. Monday a car driven by Casey C. Hird, 19, of Laguna Niguel, was traveling east at about 80 m.p.h. on Alicia Parkway near Via Aurora when it hit a wet spot in the roadway caused by sprinklers, CHP dispatcher Rick Crow said.
The auto drifted left and struck a tree, then overturned and ended up back in the eastbound traffic lane.
Hird was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Jeff Mallard, 17, of Mission Viejo, suffered minor injuries and was treated at Mission Community Hospital.
