To Save $200,000 FCC Will Halt Tar, Nicotine Testing

WASHINGTON — The Federal Trade Commission announced today that it will stop testing cigarettes for tar and nicotine content as it has done since 1966.
The decision was made to save the $200,000 annual cost of the testing lab, the agency said, adding that the same information is available from the cigarette industry, which provides periodic reports to both the FTC and Congress.
