Huntington Beach : Police Seek Intruder in Shooting of Man
Police investigators Friday were searching for a man who entered a couple’s home before dawn, walked upstairs and shot the husband in the bedroom before fleeing, a police spokesman said.
The victim, John Dorfmeyer, 55, survived the attack and was listed in good condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital.
Huntington Beach Police Lt. Chuck Poe said the man walked into the home in the 19800 block of Waterview Lane at 5:45 a.m. while Dorfmeyer and his wife were preparing to go on vacation.
Poe said that the wife, whom he did not identify, heard a disturbance at the front door and went to the kitchen to call police. While she was placing the call, the assailant walked up the stairs and shot Dorfmeyer once in the chest, Poe said.
The suspect, described as a male Latino or black, then fled. Poe said the assailant is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, was dressed in black clothing and is in his mid-20s.
