CSUN Softball Team Splits Doubleheader With Cal Poly SLO
Beth Onestinghel singled home Lori Shelly in the sixth inning with the only run Cal State Northridge needed in the second game as the Lady Matadors split a softball doubleheader, 2-0, Friday against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Onestinghel’s RBI helped make the two-hit pitching of Delanne Anderson stand up. Anderson (12-2) struck out one and walked one, and CSUN’s Barbara Jordan was 2 for 2 as the Lady Matadors improved to 14-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.
Michelle Gardiner held CSUN to three hits in the first game as San Luis Obispo won, 1-0.
Lisa Martin (7-1) took the loss for Northridge (39-16 overall). She struck out three and walked two.
San Luis Obispo scored its run in the seventh when Kathy Jones walked and was sacrificed to second by Shirley Tuttle. Gardiner singled Jones to third and Ellen Frank hit a towering drive over left fielder Onestinghel to score Jones.
