Local News in Brief : Burbank Couple Killed in Apartment Blaze
An elderly couple died late Sunday night in a fire that engulfed the living room of their two-story apartment in Burbank.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office on Monday identified one of the victims as Lewis James Maltby, 65, but withheld the identity of a 67-year-old woman until relatives were notified. A coroner’s spokesman said both died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Burbank Battalion Fire Chief Milford Johnson said the fire, reported about 11 p.m., caused about $80,000 damage to the couple’s apartment in the 600 block of East Harvard Road.
