Torrance : Street Widening Approved
The City Council approved widening Carson Street from Madrona Avenue to Crenshaw Boulevard despite the pleas of residents who said the increased traffic would bother them.
Carson Street, which is two lanes in some sections, will be widened to four lanes except for a 380-foot section east of Madrona that will be five lanes.
The council, in approving the project, scaled down a staff recommendation to make Carson five lanes all the way from Madrona to Maple Avenue.
Construction on the $3-million project, which is expected to last six months to a year, is not scheduled to begin until 1989. It will be financed with state gasoline tax money.
