Huntington Park : Police Lt. to Be Arraigned
Huntington Park police Lt. David Hood is scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles Municipal Court today on three misdemeanor charges that accuse him of slashing the tires of a South Gate businessman and trying to cover up by giving a phony statement to Downey police.
Hood is charged with vandalism involving amounts under $1,000, brandishing a firearm and making a false police report, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Steven A. Sowders, chief of the special investigations division. If convicted, Hood could receive up to 6 months in jail on each count.
The charges stem from an altercation Aug. 25 between Hood and businessman Ronald Mobley, who had previously employed the police officer’s wife. Hood allegedly slashed the tires on Mobley’s motor home and threatened him with a knife and gun before driving away. Hood later telephoned Downey police and allegedly accused Mobley of smashing the windshield of his pickup truck.
Hood, 44, has been on a stress-related industrial injury leave from the Huntington Park Police Department since November, a city spokesman said.
