Ocean Air Will Put an End to Heat Wave
Cool, moist air from the sea will give Southern California a weekend of cloudy mornings and near-perfect afternoons, forecasters said Thursday.
“The instant-summer heat wave we had during the middle of the week is over,” said Cary Schudy, meteorologist-spokesman for Earth Environment Service, a private forecasting service based in San Francisco.
“Temperatures ran about 10 degrees cooler along the coast Thursday, and the next few days should see a further decline of a degree or two. There’ll be patchy fog and low clouds most mornings, but that should be gone by 9 or 10 a.m., with uninterrupted sunshine the rest of the day.”
High temperature at Los Angeles Civic Center Thursday was 80 degrees, with relative humidity ranging from 38% to 87%, and the National Weather Service said today’s high should be a degree or two cooler.
Afternoon temperatures at the beach were expected to reach the middle to high 60s, with surf running 2 to 3 feet in most places and sea breezes coming at at 10 to 18 m.p.h. and water temperature about 5 degrees cooler than the air.
