Iran has expelled two Australian diplomats in protest over a segment on an Australian satirical television program, a Foreign Affairs Department spokesman said in Canberra. Iranian authorities have charged that the sketch defamed Islam and Iranian values. The program contained a mock interview with the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in which he threatened to “blow up the world.” The spokesman said the Iranians told the Australian ambassador in Tehran that the senior trade commissioner and senior administrative officer would have to leave Iran within 72 hours.
