An American pilot was flying to an aircraft dealer in South Africa when his single-engine plane violated Angola’s airspace and was shot down last week by Soviet-built jets, the official Angolan news agency reported. It identified the pilot as Joseph Frank Long of Greensburg, Pa., but it did not say if he was injured or what will be done with him. The agency charged earlier that he was on a spying mission for South Africa. In Washington, the State Department confirmed that a U.S. pilot and his plane are missing, but it identified him as Joseph Longo. A spokesman said he does not know if Longo is a U.S. government employee.
