The Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, Calif., has been sold for $6.4 million to Kathy and Jim Burney of Los Altos, who intend to revitalize it and attract top-name entertainment. The financially troubled theater complex has been dark since March. The couple said they hope to open the theater in late June or early July, after renovating the building’s interior. “The decision to buy was perhaps as much sentimental as it was a straightforward business deal,” said Jim Burney. “I wanted the real estate. It’s the best-known landmark on the (San Francisco) Peninsula.” The theater, which is located at the edge of San Carlos along Highway 101, has been the mid-Peninsula’s dominant theater for 22 years.
